Proteases for lysis processes
Enzymes, especially proteases, play a key role in viral diagnostics. They aid in isolating viral genetic material by breaking down internal peptide bonds. They also limit the degradation of this material by deactivating nucleases. In diagnostics, these processes are known as lysis processes. Conventional lysis processes use Proteinase K. Other proteases, including savinases and esterases are rapidly gaining ground, however.

In comparison with conventional lysis processes, our diagnostics solutions may offer improved sensitivity and temperature stability. They also have the potential for higher retained activity throughout the lysis process and longer stability in storage buffer. There is anecdotal evidence that they offer improved nuclease (DNase, RNase) deactivation. This in turn leads to increased accuracy in Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT PCR) tests.
